How to use the Malta Income Tax Calculator

  1. Choose your computation. Select the single, married or parent computation that applies to you.
  2. Enter your annual gross income. Type your total gross income for the year before any deductions.
  3. Read the estimate. The tax due, your effective rate and your marginal rate are shown together.
  4. Check the band breakdown. See how much of your income fell into each tax band.

How is income tax calculated in Malta?

Malta taxes personal income in bands. The first band is tax-free, and each band above it is taxed at a higher rate, using rates of 0%, 15%, 25% and 35%. The bands depend on whether you use the single, married or parent computation; the calculator applies the 2026 tables and shows how your income splits across them.

What is the difference between the effective and the marginal tax rate?

Your marginal rate is the rate on the last euro you earn, which is the rate of your highest band. Your effective rate is your total tax divided by your total income, and it is lower whenever part of your income sits in a cheaper band. The calculator shows both.
